Entertainment & Enterprise Streaming

Following the money

By 1999 it was becoming apparent that the advertising dollars generated by INSINC’s content properties were insufficient to justify the continued investment in the talent, technology and distribution fees incurred by the company.  During this period the company transitioned away from streaming original content to focussing on the developing of platform technologies that could be licensed and used by companies to disseminate videos.

Although this was a pivotal period that saw a shift away from content development in June 1999 the Vancouver Sun penned an article about DENtv’s content.  As a result of the 1998 sale of the DEN domains, a new viewing portal was established in January 1999, called MediaonTap.  The website www.mediaontap.com featured a mixture of original INSINC programming as well as content from INSINC customers (like Vancouver Television (VTV), Report on Business (ROBtv) and Fraser Downs Horse Racing. In July 2000 Yahoo Magazine featured INSINC’s MediaonTap property as “Must-See Net TV”.  Shortly thereafter, original INSINC programming started to diminish.

It was during this short two-year window that INSINC made significant strides in streaming for larger enterprise to large audiences.  The company streamed the first ever Rogers online AGM online, was prominently featured in Canada Business Magazine, and established itself as Canada’s pre-eminent streaming company.
